If you have never been to Bodie State Park, I highly recommend going. For us we could do it in a day if we wanted (4 1/2 hours each way), but we are crazy road trippers and for most getting a hotel in Mammoth might be the best option. Bodie in it’s prime was a HUGE mining town is the 1800’s. What is left today is only about 5% of what the town was. It’s at a very high elevation on the back side of the Sierra Nevada’s off of HWY 395. What’s even better is that my husbands family even has relatives who lived in Bodie! I have always wanted to photograph a wedding there and when Amy contacted me about her Bodie wedding I was ecstatic! This was one of the weddings I was looking forward to the most this past summer. 🙂
I will apologize in advance for this VERY LONG blog post but I just couldn’t cut it down! Everything you see was made by Amy. She did am amazing job putting together a very relaxed picnic style wedding reception at Virginia Creek Settlement, which is located just out side Bodie. Virginia Creek Settlement is a restaurant and campground / “hotel” where you stay inside covered wagons and cabins! Definitely a place to check out.
I hope you enjoy it as much as we did! Huge thanks to Trizza for second shooting with me and of course an even bigger thank you to my husband Mike for driving us there and back in one day! It was a long trip but totally worth it.
