Memorial Day in Northern California. You never know what you are going to get weather wise! As you can tell from the temple photos below it started out to be an amazingly gorgeous day. Big puffy white clouds, blue sky and just enough clouds to allow us to do the formal family photos and Molly and Mike’s formal photos on the beautiful grounds at the Sacramento California Temple at high noon! However with in 30 minutes of leaving the temple it began to rain. Dumping buckets of rain. I was scheduled to be at the Abel Family Farm at 5pm to start the second half of Molly and Mike’s formal photos. Instead of taking pictures about 30 of us moved an entire outdoor reception into a small barn. We were moving and drying chairs & tables and setting up centerpieces. About 6:15 the sun started to peek out of the clouds and we jumped on that chance to finally finish out the formal photos. It was cold and wet. My shoes were totally soaked though. The bottom 6 inches of my pants were dripping wet from walking all over but it was worth it! Molly, her sisters, and mom put together the best DIY wedding I have photographed so far! The details were amazing, there were 9 cakes, and ending up in the barn turned out to make DIY wedding the perfect fit! If the venue looks familiar it’s because we also did their Engagement session there. You can view it HERE.
Here’s a little note from the bride on her big day “Just like every other bride, I wanted my wedding to be special and unique for my husband and me. I wanted my reception to have a personal touch, so I put my family to work! I’m lucky to have 5 sisters who helped by making cakes, favors, centerpieces, and other decorations. When the day of the wedding came, it was so nice to look around the reception site and see all of the work that was done by those I love. Although we planned a beautiful outdoor reception, we were surprised when the rain began to fall, so we quickly moved everything into a nearby barn for shelter. Rather than letting the rain spoil our day, we decorated the barn with flowers, lights, tables and chairs, and most importantly family and friends.”
